What are the health requirements to travel to Guatemala ?

No vaccinations are required upon arrival, except for travelers coming from countries where yellow fever is endemic.

Recommended vaccinations: As everywhere else, you should be vaccinated (or immunized) against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, hepatitis A and B, whooping cough, and measles, especially for children. For adventure travel, you may also want to be vaccinated against typhoid and rabies.

Malaria: Personal protection against mosquitoes is essential, even though the risk of malaria is limited (especially during the dry season) and non-existent above 1,500 m, the altitude of Guatemala City. Effective repellents should be used; in the evening, clothing that covers the skin should be worn; and impregnated mosquito nets should be used when sleeping. Nivaquine will only be necessary in the event of a prolonged stay in rural areas during the rainy season.
