Senegal: 17 Authentic Days with Diambar
17 Days in Senegal with Diambar

Testimonial from Alain Group of 4 friends April 2013 Guide: Diambar
We set off with a couple of friends to explore Senegal in April 2013. I had contacted Diambar after finding his contact information on a travel forum, and we weren’t disappointed! We wanted an authentic experience, and that’s exactly what we got.

“He’s funny, open, punctual, very resourceful, and always smiling”
Diambar is from the Kédougou region (we met his family—they’re very welcoming people). He speaks fluent French and Spanish. He’s funny, open, punctual, very resourceful, and always smiling. We felt safe with him throughout our entire stay.
After a short city tour in Dakar, we began our journey with a boat crossing of the “Pink Lake,” a horse-drawn carriage tour of St. Louis, and continued on to the “Djoudj National Park,” spending the night in a tent in the Lompoul Desert, visiting the millet granaries in Joal-Fadiouth, the Shell Island, and finally, a short pirogue ride through the mangroves near the Somone Lagoon.
Then we headed to Mbour for the fishermen’s return! Fabulous!

Here we are, already back on the road to eastern Senegal, heading for the Niokolo-Koba Reserve, then on to the Kédougou market and the banks of the Gambia River. Near Kédougou, home to the Bassari tribes, we’ll meet the Bédik people of Iwool (the village of Andjiel) on the day of their initiation ceremonies! We’re not missing a thing! Dindefello Falls, the Bantako gold mine, and on the way back, the must-see Gorée Island.

Once we arrived in Dakar, since we’re divers, Diambar took us to a dive club where we got to enjoy the underwater world, which was just as amazing as everything else this country had to offer!
Seventeen days, traveling by bush taxi, very basic accommodations… for €730 per person! We have wonderful memories of this trip. Thank you, Diambar?!
